It is black brown natural solid ,burnable substance.
TYPES OF COAL
Peat
Lignite
Bituminous coal
Anthracite
PEAT-
It is 1st stage of coal formation.
It has low carbon content .
LIGNITE-
Peat burns and form lignite.
It has 70% of carbon content.
BITUMINOUS COAL
It contains 80% of carbon content it it.
ANTHRACITE-
It is superior form of coal.
It has 90%-95% of coal in it.
FORMATION OF COAL-
Dead remains of plants and animals over million years get buried under earth and due to high temperature and high pressure gets converted into COAL.
FORMS OF COAL -
1.COAL TAR
2.COKE
3.COAL GAS
4.AMMONIUM LIQUOR
1.COAL TAR-
It is black thick liquid with an unpleasant smell.
It is made up of about 200 substances.
USES
It is used to make
- Explosives
- Naphthalene balls
- Synthetic fibres
- Paints
-Drugs
- Photography materials
- Roofing materials
2. COKE-
It is black tough porous liquid.
It is almost pure form of Carbon.
USES
- In making steel
- To extract metals .
3. COAL GAS-
It is obtained by processing coal into coke.
It is used in many industries situates near coal mines.
It is black brown natural solid ,burnable substance.
